• Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) is a unit of the Department of Atomic Energy. The centre is involved in advanced activities in the fields of Lasers and Accelerators.
• Responsibilities & Learnings:
• The project focussed on the design and development aspects of a C-D nozzle to construct a low-pressure solid-state deposition system.
• It involved evaluating the effect of various process parameters like the stagnation temperature, stagnation pressure, and nozzle geometry on the output particle velocity.
• The analytical analysis was carried out using MATLAB and simulations of Ansys Fluent. The realizable k-ε turbulence model was used to simulate gas conditions along with the discrete phase model (DPM) for modelling the powder particles.
• It was found that using the nozzle; copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, and tin can achieve the critical velocity required for deposition.
