Hitha Shri Nagaruru — AI Researcher
I have always been the kind of person who wants to understand the whole system, not just the piece I am responsible for. Before starting my Master of Computer Science at UC Irvine, I spent a year as an AI Engineer at Bosch, building LLM-powered tools and data pipelines for a live manufacturing plant. What I discovered there is that the most interesting AI problems are not in the model itself. They are in how it fits into the workflow, the data, and the environment around it. I got pulled into customer complaint escalations, learned how Kanban and ERP systems connect end to end, and figured out how to deploy a Python web app through corporate firewalls with no playbook. None of that was in my job description. I just wanted to understand how everything worked. That curiosity is what brought me to UCI, where I am now working on LLM safety and validation. I led a team to publish validate-llm, an open-source Python package on PyPI with composable guardrail agents for toxicity, accuracy, bias, privacy, and relevancy. I am also building a federated learning engine with privacy risk detection, exploring what it takes to make distributed ML systems trustworthy. I am looking for internship or research roles in AI engineering, data science, or applied ML where I can work on real problems, ship things that matter, and keep learning fast.
