It drives viral growth loops, partnership, customer collateral, beta users, and feedback. Community Marketing is the act of marketing "through", instead of "to", your customers. Understanding this enables a host of low-cost of acquisition customers plays that compound. Today, I run a boutique consultancy that helps a handful of top SaaS companies build their Community Marketing operating system and playbook — covering Customer Marketing, Social, Events, and Advocacy. In three months we build out your playbook and run statistically significant GTM experiments. Then we maintain and improve the systems. At Apollo, I supported the community team of eight: Customer Marketing, Social, Events, Evangelism, Executive Presence, Brand. In 18 months we grew LinkedIn followers from 16,000 to 105,000, organic impressions from 20K to 1M per month from the company page alone, and 3–5M monthly when you include UGC and evangelism. The company raised $100M in a down market at a $1B+ valuation. That growth was made possible by the best community marketing team in SaaS. At Chili Piper, I built a team of 10 across brand, events, content, video, social, customer marketing, and PR. We called it the "Mechanism to Amplify Everything." It generated 1–3M organic impressions per month. As General Manager at Modern Sales Pros, I brought membership from 1,000 to 14,000. I've hosted dozens of events, grown a community to 6,000, and spent years helping founders figure out how to turn their customers into their best salespeople. On the political side: Founder of #LeadersVote and Election Day Off, an advocacy group that netted over 5,000 votes for Democrats in GA, WI, FL, and PA in The 2020 election. 2020. I've run events for Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Kamala Harris, the Biden's and others.
