Haus of bold

Marketing Research Consultant

Jan 2022Present · 4 yrs 5 mos · Boston, Massachusetts, United States · Remote

  • Haus of Bold is a boutique B2B content marketing firm that specializes in survey-based research. We're a fit for early-stage and growth-stage B2B SaaS companies that sell complex, enterprise-ready solutions where content has to do real work: building trust with sophisticated/skeptical buyers, supporting multiple GTM motions, and building the credibility that closes high-ticket deals.
  • Working with us typically results in two distinct outcomes:
  • 1. B2B marketing teams find out what their ICP really thinks about their differentiated point of view — helping them refine their marketing message.
  • 2. Brands publish the data insights as a proprietary original research report, helping them build thought leadership, land press coverage, grow brand awareness, generate leads, and close deals.
  • Projects run for 3 months and start at $25,000.

  • The Predictive Index is an Inc. 5000 B2B SaaS company in the HR tech/human capital management space. It sells a talent optimization platform organizations can use to align their business and talent strategies.
  • I led a 12-person team spanning editorial, graphic design, media production, and digital learning — expanding marketing's ability to create interactive content by integrating the digital learning team, which had previously rolled up to Product. This enabled us to build engaging hands-on content experiences including personalized courses, interactive blogs, and professional development certifications. We also produced the “Work on Trial” documentary exploring why employees were quitting at record rates, inviting target accounts and customers to a virtual premiere event with shipped boxes (popcorn, ticket, movie poster) and facilitating post-film roundtables; 97% of invitees attended live.
  • In 2021, PI added 2,400+ new clients and 500 new partners, with content playing a central role across acquisition, onboarding, and retention. During this period, we grew high-intent hand-raiser demo leads by 102% YoY, driven in part by the launch and build out of PI Learn — an interactive learning center that gated our best content behind a single login. We used retargeting campaigns to re-engage prospects who had signed up for Learn but gone cold, driving them to log back in and ultimately request a demo.

Head of Content Marketing

Promoted

Mar 2019Jan 2021 · 1 yr 10 mos · Hybrid

  • As Head of Content, I scaled the team from 1 to 8 and built the operational infrastructure to support it. I moved our editorial calendar into Asana to make cross-functional collaboration easier, did a process mapping exercise to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge and speed up onboarding, and built those processes directly into Asana using workflows and automations so we could move faster and keep stakeholders informed without manual updates. I also created professional development plans for each team member, while tailoring my leadership style to their behavioral profile and preferences to maximize engagement and discretionary effort.
  • I developed a full-funnel, narrative-led content strategy aligned to PI's GTM strategy to support three concurrent sales motions: sales-led, partner-led, and product-led. And I helped my team execute it — writing quarterly survey-based research reports, going on camera for video content, and editing across the content mix. We also turned research insights into derivative content experiences: For example, if our data showed that executives struggled with driving team engagement, we'd build a self-assessment calculator and an actionable playbook to go with it.
  • Our campaigns drove millions in closed won revenue during this time period. One research report campaign alone — The 2020 Remote Work Report — was tracked in Salesforce and directly attributed to closing 114 opportunities and $680K in revenue.
  • During this period, I led monthly all company lunch and learns to help employees in different departments understand what marketing was building — and pick up practical skills like copywriting and clear communication.
  • By 2021, I had grown my own LinkedIn audience to 15K and was applying those learnings internally. I built an executive LinkedIn training pod — running lessons for our C-level leaders and coaching them to share their expertise publicly, and bring their learnings back to the group. Some of them are still posting today.

Content Marketing Manager

Aug 2018Mar 2019 · 7 mos · Hybrid

  • As a content team of one, I built PI's content marketing engine from the ground up — creating a detailed content calendar that gave the marketing team full visibility into what was going live, why, and when, tying individual pieces to larger campaigns and strategic goals. The content plan incorporated SEO targets, executive interviews, co-marketing, and gated assets. I did most of the creation myself while managing freelance writers and an intern videographer.
  • The defining work of this period was helping PI's executive team articulate a new discipline from scratch. I spent weeks meeting and white-boarding with them — pulling the concept of talent optimization out of their heads and into written form, structuring the framework, and finding the clearest way to explain it. That work became the 50-page Ultimate Guide to Talent Optimization, which informed a talent optimization maturity model and a PI-agnostic microsite — talentoptimization.org. These were the foundational building blocks that helped PI secure a $50M Series A.

Feb 2017Aug 2018 · 1 yr 6 mos · Hybrid

  • Brafton is a large content marketing agency in the United States, serving hundreds of clients ranging from SMBs to Fortune 100 companies.
  • I was promoted to lead the Boston editorial department, overseeing section editors and content writers who produced various types of content across diverse industries (software, manufacturing, transportation, health care, education) and business models (B2B, B2C, D2C, B2B2C).
  • I managed writer resource allocation to the 30-minute unit across 350+ accounts, balancing different content complexity tiers and formats to keep writers fully loaded in spite of frequent client delays — maximizing profitability by ensuring no writer capacity went unused.
  • I joined client meetings both in-person for major accounts and remotely to support writers, maintain strong client relationships, and solve problems in real-time. I also sourced and screened talent, trained all new employees on content marketing best practices, and worked with sales to create on-spec content to close large deals.
  • Over the years, I became a go-to resource across departments when people needed answers as well as a role model for servant leadership. As my manager Francis said, "Erin essentially made the company better almost immediately. On top of that she was a positive spark for our culture. She has a natural talent of balancing authority as a manager with the ability to deploy soft skills toward her team. To this day people who reported to her still hold her in high regard."

  • I conducted one-on-one meetings with writers for staff development and ran monthly editorial team meetings where I delivered trainings based on what the team needed to learn and changes in the marketing landscape. Providence media

Assistant Editor

Nov 2011Oct 2012 · 11 mos · Pawtucket, Rhode Island · On-site

  • Providence Media publishes four monthly print magazines promoting local Rhode Island businesses, events, and personalities.
  • While working in education prior to this, I started a blog for fun. When I saw that my favorite city magazine (Providence Monthly) was hiring an assistant editor, I emailed them a link to my blog, took an editing test, wrote a sample article, and got the job — launching my career in content and editorial work.
  • Along with the executive editor, I edited four print magazines per month: Providence Monthly, East Side Monthly, SO Rhode Island, and the Bay. I managed the editorial calendar and a backlog of story ideas, assigning work to freelance writers, writing front-of-book blurbs and monthly columns, and handling all first-round edits. But the real work happened out in the field. I traveled across Rhode Island writing immersive, first-hand stories — playing bocce with the city bocce league, learning drums, getting my nose pierced, trying spa treatments, and interviewing touring musicians backstage.
  • My cover story on the Providence nightlife scene won a first place Rhode Island Press Award in the Business category. The best part of the whole job? I attended community events regularly, from our annual singles party to our summer Block Island bash, building rapport with readers and representing the magazines across the state.
