About

I have a passion for computer science because it allows people to solve problems on a larger scale (e.g., Google Drive apps and GitHub allow people to create, collaborate, and/or share different documents for free).

Home chef

Software Engineer II

Feb 2019Dec 2020 · 1 yr 10 mos · Chicago, Illinois

  • Improving the Home Chef site on the Customer Experience team!
  • Created a new React app for the Message Center, built out APIs and components for the messages, and created a new table to assign messages to users. The app is rendered in one spot at the top of the page, but uses portals to move components to other places in the DOM (e.g., message slide-out drawer, above the menus in the dashboard).
  • Revamped the gift card flow by working on the re-design, added addresses to carts, and ensured that addresses are verified against Stripe.
  • Worked on the ID.me feature that allows hospital employees, first responders, and teachers to receive a sign-up voucher and recurring discount. This was achieved by adding a new OmniAuth callback.
  • Fixed a security bug in our Google OmniAuth to use a POST request from an interstitial page using a valid CSRF token instead of doing a simple redirect to Google.
  • Added new banners and notifications in the React Native app to allow users to easily unpause their account and notify them if a basket is undeliverable or if their delivery date will be affected.
  • Squashed lots of visual bugs (e.g., bad breakpoints, misaligned items, accessibility concerns, etc.)
  • Cleaned up yml files that followed patterns like `item1, item2, item3....` by turning them into iterable lists making it easier to add and rearrange items without having to update the HTML.
  • Optimized the CSS for our marketing pages, which were previously pulling in every SCSS file we had even though majority of it was being unused on top of having a file with nearly 6700 lines! These pages have high traffic, so it was important that we improved the page load performance. This refactor broke up the huge file into page specific stylesheets since the styling rules themselves were page specific as well as created a new main shared file that imports only the necessary files that are being used. This reduced page load time by nearly half and the size of CSS loaded by ~60%.
