About

Hi, I'm Ming — a Software Engineer, Graphic Designer, and Business Consultant. At first glance, these roles may seem unrelated, but to me, they're all expressions of art. As a Software Engineer, I shape the future with millions of lines of code. As a Designer, I communicate emotion and story through color and form. As a Business Consultant, I identify hidden opportunities and help bring bold ideas to life. Different tools, one mission: to paint the future. As a Software Engineer, I am currently working with: Javascript | React | Node | Express | PostgreSQL | MongoDB | MySQL | Jest | React Testing Library | GraphQL | Docker | AWS | NGINX | Python Learning: Typescript | React Native | Swift Feel free to explore my passion in coding: www.github.com/mingwencode

  • JavaScript | React Native
  • A mini-game developed with React Native. I made it for my 6-year-old girl who loves everything from Disney.
  • The game is a simple image reveal game. The app will randomly pick an image from the database. The image was covered by a 4 X 5 grid with only one tile uncovered. The player then guesses what the character is. There is a hint button that allows the player to reveal 3 more tiles. After using 3 hints, the player cannot get any more hints and the button will be disabled. The image will never repeat within one single game, and the tile reveal is also random.
  • There are 10 questions per game. 10 points per question. The screen will show whether the answer is correct. It will add 10 points to the player score and it will show on the top right of the screen.
  • After 10 questions were being asked, it will show the game over screen with the final score and a Play again button that allows the player to play again.

  • React (Hooks) | Express | MongoDB Atlas | React-Router | Google Map API
  • Smove is a one-stop platform for users to manage their moves with ease!
  • Smove integrates all the pieces of moving including finding vendors, tracking tasks and inventory, and collaborating with family & friends.
  • I worked on the Local Business section where I implemented data retrieved from Yelp API to Google Map API. The users can search for local businesses that they want to work with. The users can hover over the markers on the map to see pictures/ratings/numbers of reviewers. Users can also sort the results.

  • I built a database using PostgreSQL to store user information and job information. All information displayed on the application will be automatically retrieved from the database based on the user's account information.
  • In the frontend, there is a login page for users to sign in. a profile page to display user information including the number of jobs they posted and completed. There are also a request job form, job list, map, and rating associated with it.

  • React | Express | Styled Components | Jest | React Testing Library
  • An e-commerce single-page web application. It contains four modules, including product overview, related products, questions and answers, and reviews and ratings.
  • I worked as a frontend developer in a group of four engineers, and in charge of the related products module.
  • There are two main components within this module, Related Product List and Your Outfit List
  • Related product list needs to show all the related products of the current product in a carousel-style image slider. I was required to make sure all the information of the product shows up in the carousel and it also is able to allow users to compare the features of the related product and current product. Also, if users click on one of the related products, it will direct users to the new product page.
  • Your outfit list is also displayed as a carousel style. The users can add and remove current products from the list.

Back End Developer

  • PostgreSQL | Docker | Nginx | AWS EC2 | New Relic | Loader.io | K6
  • I worked on redesigning the backend system for a legacy codebase application that needs to scale up and handle 100 clicks per second.
  • There are different services provided in the application. I was in charge of the questions and answers services.
  • I first had to make sure over 10 million of data safely transferred to an upgraded and secured database using PostgreSQL. I designed nest queries not only making sure the data come back in the format required by the front end but also making sure the database response time is within the client's expectations.
  • After deploying the new database and server to AWS EC2. using Loader.io, New Relic to resolve any bottlenecks. I was able to exceed the client's expectations and made the application to handle 1000 requests per second.
