University of southampton electronics and computer science society

President

Apr 2015Apr 2017 · 2 yrs · University of Southampton

  • The Electronics & Computer Science Society (ECSS) at the University of Southampton represents over 1600 students studying a range of Electronics and Computer Science based degrees. Under my leadership we updated the society brand and overhauled the events, transforming the society into one of the most successful societies on campus. I received an award at graduation from the department for my contributions, primarily through my work as President of ECSS.
  • Event attendances soared from just committee members the previous year to over 400 members attending the first Christmas party organised by my committee. We began hosting events every week including social, academic, gaming and sporting events.
  • I believe passionately that happy people produce better work and so it was important to engage with as many students as possible in ECSS. This was achieved as I decided the Society should run the induction programme for the department. We received lots of praise for the way we approached this and ECSS continues to run the induction programme.
  • After being re-elected I continued to work to improve the relationship between staff and students before handing over to new committee, which we expanded to handle the huge task of running a society of this size.
