  • As a governance analyst, it is part of your duties to assess the level of protection offered by implemented controls and minimize the probability of a successful breach. To be successful at your job you often need to know the techniques used by hackers to circumvent implemented controls and propose uplifts to increase the overall level of security in an organization. Gaining valid credentials gives the attackers access to the organization’s IT system, thus circumventing most of the perimeter controls in place.
  • Task Description
  • ✔️Our job is to crack as many passwords as possible with available tools (e.g. use Hashcat).
  • Here are your Task instructions:
  • ✔️Review the links provided to gain a background understanding of password cracking.
  • ✔️Try to crack the passwords provided in the 'password dump' file below using available tools.
  • ✔️Assess the 5 questions in the task instructions below in relation to the passwords provided (type of hashing algorithm, level of protection, possible controls that could be implemented, password policy, changes in policy)
  • ✔️Draft an email/memo briefly explaining your findings in relation to controls used by the organization and your proposed uplifts.
  • ✔️Our answer should be provided in the form of a draft email/memo explaining your findings and conclusions of controls currently used by an organization to prevent the successful cracking of passwords and potential uplifts that you would propose to existing controls with justifications.

Quantium

Data Analytics Virtual Experience Program

Jul 2020Aug 2020 · 1 mo

  • Quantium is Australian-based data analytics and artificial intelligence company. This virtual experience program focuses on one of the many different industries that Quantium operates in and that is FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods). More specifically, we are looking at the sales pattern of the chips category in a particular retail store.
  • ✔️Task 1- Data Preparation and Customer Analytics
  • There are two important datasets in Task 1, chips sales and customer data. The task is to carry out exploratory data analysis in order to extract insights about the purchasing behavior of different customer groups. We want to then use those insights to formulate strategies to help our client increase chip sales.
  • ✔️Task 2- Experimentation and Uplift Testing
  • In Task 2, we are told that there are 3 trial stores that have gone through a 3-month trial period with modified store layouts. We need to assess whether or not these changes in store layouts have resulted in positive outcomes in terms of chips sales and the number of customers who have purchased chips. In order to do this, we have to first determine and assign a control store to each of the trial stores. Once this is done, we can proceed to use statistical tests like the t-test to evaluate the difference in total sales and number of customers between the control stores and the trial stores during the trial period and subsequently draw a conclusion on the effectiveness of the trial.
  • ✔️Task 3 - Analytics and commercial application
  • In Task 3, we used analytics and insights from Task 1 and 2 to prepare a report for the client, the Category Manager. We have also used the Pyramid Principle method to deliver insights and recommendations to clients in Powerpoint.
