About

I’m an Embedded Systems Consultant who loves turning napkin sketches into products you can mass manufacture 🏭. Whether it’s hardware or firmware, I work across the entire stack to bring embedded ideas to life. I also have extensive hands-on experience with Lithium batteries and Battery Management Systems (BMS). I’ve worn a lot of hats—individual contributor, team builder and lead engineer. I’ve designed systems that handle everything from sensing a few millivolts to switching hundreds of watts, balancing trade-offs in power, cost, and performance. On the firmware side, I craft low-power, memory-optimized, modular and scalable architectures in both bare-metal and RTOS environments. I’ve built IoT devices that talk to the cloud and mobile apps over BLE, cellular, and WiFi. A special shout out to Lithium batteries and BMS - extensive domain specific and design knowledge🔋. I’m a big believer in open source, and I deeply care about environmental sustainability 🌍. If your project makes the world smarter and greener, we’re probably going to get along just fine. Let’s build something cool (and power-efficient) together. 🦾

Driving force of the Embedded for Her program

Apr 2017Aug 2017 · 4 mos · Bengaluru Area, India

  • Embedded for Her (embeddedforher.com) is a skill development program in the field of embedded systems for women, with a focus on free hardware and software. After a failed attempt at conducting this program in 2016, it was organized successfully in 2017.
  • 12 women took part in the 10 week embedded systems learning program organized by Free Software Movement Karnataka (FSMK). Held every Saturday between 10th June and 12 August 2017, the course was specifically aimed at strengthening the fundamentals of electronics and programming and getting hands-on experience working on an embedded system project. The course had 12 diverse participants from varied educational and career background, age groups, and interests. In the project phase of the program, the participants formed teams to design, develop and showcase a project based on what they learnt in the course phase. All the teams successfully demoed a functional prototype of their project after going through the entire project lifecycle of idea selection, concept design, hardware and firmware development and testing.
  • As a volunteer at FSMK, I lead this program full-time. I handled all aspects of the program with assistance from the other volunteers.

Lofelt

Embedded Engineer

Jan 2015Jan 2017 · 2 yrs · Bengaluru Area, India

  • Lofelt makes the Basslet, a revolutionary bracelet that lets you feel the bass in music. A simple, powerful and comfortable wearable sub-woofer.
  • There was immense learning of building a company culture, especially one that's respectful, hard-working and friendly. I was part of the small engineering team that made Basslet a reality, from a spaghetti of wires connecting dev boards to an on-time delivered Kickstarter product in just over a year. Product management needed to go from a prototype to a premium product in the hands of thousands of customers was a big learning. My responsibilities were designing the electronics at the schematic level and firmware development. Particularly I worked on the design of the low-latency, low-power streaming protocol, overall firmware architecture development, User Experience (UX) implementation, power optimization and in-factory test routine development.

Bluvision, inc.

Firmware Engineer

Nov 2014Apr 2015 · 5 mos · Berlin Area, Germany

  • My primary role was developing firmware for the CC2650 System on Chip (SoC), which drives the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacons by BluVision. Specifically, I interfaced a light sensor and motion detection sensor, coded the complete Host Controller Interface (HCI) layer and developed firmwares for customer specific applications. I also developed Android apps to configure the beacons and log specific advertisements. I've got an idea of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) in both hardware and software, with experience in a factory in China. Finally, this was a good experience learning the do's and don'ts when managing a start-up.

Master Thesis

Jan 2014Sep 2014 · 8 mos · Stockholm, Sweden

  • The objective of my thesis is firstly to port Contiki OS and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Protocol to a SoC platform that supports BLE and secondly to compare various performance criteria such as data rate, latency, and energy consumption with 802.15.4 based MAC layers (ContikiMAC and Null-RDC). A demo of the port was also showcased. The thesis report and code is available at https://github.com/EarthLord/

Project Assistant

Oct 2011Jul 2012 · 9 mos · Bangalore, India

  • Being the project assistant for Dr. André Pittet I was involved in the complete product design cycle of fabricating gadgets such as camera traps and animal collars for wildlife researchers. The main drivers for the projects were flawless implementation of the core feature, low cost, large battery life and ruggedness.
  • My tasks included features decision, design, implementation and testing of the enclosure (3D modelling), electronics (PCB schematics, routing & soldering) and software (embedded software, windows PC application, android application). The entire process was re-iterated after customers' feedback.

  • As team leader of STUDSAT-2 I had a greater role in the coordination function. My major tasks included conducting management meets, recruiting students, preparing the project timeline and approaching various organizations and making presentations to raise funds for the project. My technical work was focused on the use of Real Time Operating System's (FREE-RTOS) features for satellite applications and developing a prototype of the checkout system. In addition, I led the process of analyzing and selecting the payload and core controller for the satellite and interfacing the on and off chip peripherals.
