Sreerag Kuruvat is a pathfinder in the field of sustainable waste management and social entrepreneurship, with over 8 years of dedicated experience. As the Senior Operations Manager at Green Worms Waste Management, he leads a team of 70 members—providing strategic guidance and solutions to over 186 local self-governments in Kerala, India. Sreerag has pioneered a waste management system that efficiently processes 5,000 metric tones of plastic waste each month, setting a new standard in the industry. Recognized for his impactful contributions, Sreerag is a recipient of the prestigious India Disaster Resilience Leadership Fellowship, a title awarded by institutions like Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Human Settlements, and George Washington University. This fellowship stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment and leadership in mitigating the environmental aftermath of the 2018 Kerala floods. He led a massive campaign to scientifically treat and dispose of over 300 tonnes of flood debris, showcasing his resilience and expertise in times of crisis. Beyond his technical expertise, Sreerag is a social catalyst committed to uplifting marginalized communities through capacity-building initiatives. He has directly trained over 3,000 Haritha Karma Sena members—primarily rural women—and is supporting a total of 5,234 members by providing them with livelihood opportunities, as well as skills in financial empowerment, financial literacy, leadership, and entrepreneurship. By transforming waste into a source of empowerment, Sreerag is improving the financial well-being of 5,234 marginalized women and their households. Additionally, through effective waste management services delivered to 1,646,432 households and 142,584 institutions, his work is redefining social entrepreneurship, enabling these women to transform both their lives and their communities. Sreerag’s vision goes beyond managing waste; it’s about building a sustainable and inclusive society. His published works on sustainable models and his role in various national and international conferences underscore his commitment to creating a resilient and environmentally conscious Kerala. This is my journey so far, learning and growing in this industry with the satisfaction of making a positive impact on the community that I’m living in.
