Vani B S — Project Manager
🔬 Aspiring Mitochondrial Biologist | Experienced in Mitochondrial Dynamics, Vesicle Biology & Cell Signaling | Seeking PhD Position in Mitochondrial Biology Domain I am a motivated and detail-oriented researcher with hands-on experience in mitochondrial biology, molecular cloning, cell culture, and protein purification techniques. Currently working as a Project Assistant at the University of Hyderabad, in the Mitochondrial Biology Lab under Dr. Naresh Babu Sepuri, I am involved in cutting-edge research on mitochondrial dynamics and signaling. Current Projects: * Characterizing TOM70-derived mitochondrial vesicles (MDVs), their cargos, and communication mechanisms. * Investigating the role of mitochondrial Cux1 protein in cellular signaling. * Exploring how mtDNA haplogroups influence Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and severity. My research recently led to a publication (under review) titled "A new subset of mitochondrial derived vesicles perform intra-mitochondrial communications". Previously, I completed a research internship at Tranalab Pvt Ltd (Centre for Human Genetics, Bengaluru), a biotech startup focused on developing biosimilar and bio-better drugs for Gaucher’s disease. There, I worked on expressing therapeutic proteins in CHO cells and optimizing lysosomal targeting using Mannose-6-Phosphate receptor pathways. I hold a Master’s in Biotechnology from Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru, where I built a strong foundation in advanced cell biology, genetics, and protein engineering. Core Skills: * Mammalian Cell Culture, Transfection * Mitochondrial Isolation, MDV Assays (in vitro & in vivo), Percoll Gradient Centrifugation * Confocal Microscopy, Live-cell Imaging, TEM, Immunofluorescence * Molecular Cloning (PCR, Transformation), SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting * Protein Purification (Ni-NTA, Size Exclusion Chromatography) * Animal handling (Wistar rats, C57BL/6 mice), Tissue Dissection (Liver, Heart, Muscle) Goal: I am currently seeking a PhD position in the mitochondrial biology domain, with a particular interest in mitochondrial dynamics, inter-organelle communication, quality control pathways and metabolic regulation in disease models. I am eager to contribute to a collaborative, research-intensive environment and am open to opportunities globally. Let’s connect if you’re working in the mitochondrial research space or know of any PhD opportunities aligned with my background!
