About

I am passionate about problem solving, be it small fun puzzles or grand engineering challenges of the computing industry. For past 12 years I've worked on a number of engineering problems that include: High performance scalable systems Machine Learning Data Mining Advertising Data Analytics. In addition to the day jobs I've held, the most exciting project for me has been writing the Book "Algorithms for Interviews". Adnan (my PhD advisor) and I have been collecting interesting problems for over a decade which has gone into this book and I take great pleasure in the fact that thousands of engineers have already used it to improve their algorithms/problem solving skills.

  • At Google I lead multiple teams responsible for algorithmic improvements to the Ad Serving system. I worked on
  • Infrastructure for some of worlds largest distributed machine learning systems (probably by an order of magnitude)
  • Data analytics for Ads
  • Improving signals and algorithms for ad selection
  • low latency prediction server infrastructure
  • As a team of 5-8 engineers we were able to add hundreds of millions of dollars of incremental ad revenue every year through algorithmic improvements.

  • I was one of the first few engineers to join the Bing team. I was primarily responsible for building the distributed system there that could load web graph and do PageRank like computations. We developed A Spam-resistant version of PageRank there. I was also responsible for the machine learning component in Bing's static page analysis, index selection and crawl prioritization.
