• This research was motivated by the problems, that are faced by the poor farmers in India, due to the extreme erratic nature of commodity prices. We studied the past ten year time series data of daily onion prices, to understand the impact of factors, such as, weather, export, inflation, hoarding, fuel, and transportation costs, on the severe price fluctuations in the onion marketplace. We developed a prediction algorithm using Machine Learning models to predict such fluctuations and malpractices like hoarding.
