Working on the Instagram Android application in the Camera Platform team. I am working as an individual contributor and supporting Reels and Camera platform features. We are using mainly Kotlin, Java and Android SDK for app development. I am contributing to the application by collaborating with the UI/UX design team, backend team and product managers.
● Built IG Album and Gallery Picker, including new design language and extensible architecture. As a top-of-funnel feature for IG Reels creation used by millions of people every day, it had extremely high UX and reliability requirements. Extensive Media content optimisation was required to support a broad range of Android devices, and memory constrained environments. Today, the Gallery Picker powers most of the IG Reels created.
● Shipped multiple Audio and Video editing tools for IG Reels (Split Video, Split Audio, Trim Audio and Video, Voiceover for Reels, and many more). Features required extensible work with memory and screen optimisation and reliability in a memory constrained environment. Combined impact adds up to an increase in millions of hours of content created over the last 6 months.
● Improved Instagram app stability by triaging and handling production issues. As an expert in Reels Creation, collaborated with the central Reliability team, which resulted in statistically significant improvement of app reliability, measured in 99.85% sessions crash free (impact on millions of user sessions, given IG scale) and approx 99.65% sessions without any issue during my shifts (2022-2025).
