My work at CVLab, EPFL, aims at developing powerful and flexible algorithms which combine Probabilistic Inference with modern Machine Learning methods. I applied my research to Computer Vision and numerical simulations.
I believe that most state of the art methods used in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision lack probabilistic reasoning about the data. Deep Learning and Probabilistic Graphical models should therefore be seen as two highly complementary methods, rather than competing ones.
