  • Restorative Farms is something different from other “urban farms” that you might be familiar with…. A non-profit, self-sustainable endeavor, we are not “Facebook Farmers”. While we are creating “farms”: The Seedling Farm at MLK, the Hatcher Station Training & Community Farm and “GroZilla”, a 16’ x 40’ double wide container farm at Fair Park, we in fact more than just a farm project. We are creating a catalyst for change and templates for others to follow, leveraging community assets to create innovative ways to address some of the major barriers to successful and scalable local agricultural production. With the community in partnership, we have convened a broad requisite expertise in agriculture and economic development to address issues of food justice, access and employment in underserved communities. Viable and sustainable “food system  components” have already been launched, delivering locally grown fresh food, jobs, leadership learning opportunities and economic development. Each component is based on industry best practices, set in motion and supported by Restorative Farms and its partners (Texas A&M AgriLife, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the State Fair of Texas, Frazier Revitalization, Netafim USA, Hort Americas and others). As each component becomes sustainable it can link with the other components to provide the necessary support and infrastructure for the wider developing S Dallas urban food system.
  • Our first mission is to foster a vibrant & viable community-based urban farm system…what some call an “agrisystem”. and do this in one of the country’s largest food deserts: South Dallas. We strive to achieve the “Trifecta” of urban farming:
  • 1. Provide good, healthy, affordable produce for the community
  • 2. Create income for S. Dallas community growers and producers with profits from
  • production and sales.
  • 3. Provide community members training, work, entrepreneurial and leadership experiences
  • and other opportunities.
