• Slack is where work happens. I was the Director of Engineering for our Business Technology division, where I was responsible for several teams that are building, scaling, and operating critical corporate infrastructure. I joined as the first engineering leader in Business Technology and drove initiatives related to increasing automation to improve efficiency and regulatory compliance in preparation for our IPO. I built a distributed organization across San Francisco, Denver, and India.
• Our work included security operations, incident response, information security, global network architecture, client endpoint configuration and management, cloud services, application integration across various enterprise tools, Quote to Cash contract creation and billing implementation, and the Slack on Slack program, which partnered software engineers on my team with employees throughout the company to build custom tools on the Slack platform using bots, apps, and integrations.

• Planet's mission is to image the entire Earth every day and make global change visible, accessible, and actionable. They've done this by building and operating the world's largest fleet of private satellites.
• At Planet I managed the Corporate Engineering & Information Security team, working closely with leadership to set strategic goals, budgets, and technology governance. I also led new system development and deployment efforts, cloud and physical infrastructure, and corporate identity and access management.
• Project highlights included due diligence and integration for four acquisitions, managing the build-out of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing and clean room facility, and an AWS to GCP migration. While in this role I was a member of the Customer Advisory Board for AWS GovCloud region.

• 18F is a digital services agency within the US government, founded by Presidential Innovation Fellows during the Obama administration. I joined 18F as an early hire after contributing to the organization’s creation as a Presidential Innovation Fellow, with responsibility for establishing many of 18F’s initial projects and identifying relationships and win opportunities to build momentum.
• At 18F, I helped lead a number of initiatives, most notably working with the Peace Corps to launch a new home for crowdsourcing funding for Volunteer projects around the world as well as initial scoping and vision-setting for what became a years-long collaboration with the Federal Election Commission to provide user-centered content for understanding the reporting and compliance requirements for people participating in federal elections. Other agency work included projects with HHS and the National Park Service.

• As a Presidential Innovation Fellow working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, I helped build openFDA, an open data and API platform that made millions of FDA records available to the public, much of it for the first time. My primary focus was addressing policy and programmatic issues around open data, and towards product launch I worked closely with HHS and the White House to ensure alignment with administration objectives.
• Beyond my work at FDA, I engaged with a number of federal agencies to help with technology and policy-related issues. Notably, I worked with the Office of the First Lady and the Department of Justice to launch notalone.gov, an online resource center for information on sexual assault on college and university campuses, and with the Internal Revenue Service on ensuring success during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

• I consulted to NASA where I contributed to open government, open source, and open data efforts including the implementation of NASA’s response to the Open Government Directive, Digital Government Strategy, and Open Government Partnership initiatives. I was an author of NASA’s Open Government Plan, defined the strategy for data and source code release, and led the launch of data.nasa.gov. The project served as a model for adoption by multiple government agencies.
• Other projects included working on a team to create and launch the first government-sponsored hackathons, a global event series run by local teams.
