I am Umang Somtiya, currently an SDE-2 at Meesho, where I bring 2.4 months of experience in backend development. I've worked with a range of technologies, including C++, C, Java, Golang, Spring Boot, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, MySQL, HBase, and MongoDB. I take pride in my ability to design scalable solutions and have a solid understanding of core subjects such as System Design, DBMS, Object-Oriented Programming, Operating Systems, and Computer Networks. I graduated with a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in 2022. Throughout my career, I’ve achieved some notable milestones, such as qualifying for the ICPC regionals in 2020, where my team ranked 565 out of 7,244. I also secured 4th place out of 60 teams in a Generative AI hackathon organized by Meesho. Led and executed the end-to-end enablement of mixed feed (GST and non-GST
catalogs) on the Catalog Listing Page (CLP). I built a complete pipeline to process
non-GST catalogs (state-biased), ensuring they were ranked and merged with GST
catalogs in a meritocratic manner. Additionally, I developed a real-time catalog
generator (CG in Go) to replace the old offline CG (in Java), achieving a 100%
ranked feed. The offline CG provided empty feeds for 30-40% of CLP IDs and relied
on a fallback mechanism. A total of six P0 (RPS - 6k) services from different teams
were involved in the flow, utilizing both Java and Go. I managed the migration of
all existing CLP IDs to mixed feeds, resulting in a significant increase in the view
contribution (VC) of non-GST catalogs.

Independently spearheaded the HBase to Bigtable migration, overseeing the
integration of the Bigtable client and taking full responsibility for solutioning and
development to migrate data from HBase to Bigtable.
Enabled non-GST catalogs over user's searching feed on meritocratic ranking
with GST catalogs. Created the end-to-end pipeline to flow non-GST catalogs from
different candidate generators to ranking to organic search feed.
Developed a workflow for onboarding non-GST sellers, contributing to
solutioning and the development of the user onboarding journey flow under
critical time constraint. Additionally, I managed end-to-end activation processes
for non-GST sellers across internal organization flows, including internal upload
panels, and assisted in fraud detection flows.
Developed actionable Growth Insights for sellers to enhance their product sales.
Provided recommendations on ADs and pricing to be in competition.
