🧑🏻💻Anuraag Baishya — AI Researcher
I often find myself spending more time with computers than outside. Therefore, for me, safety in the cyberspace has become as important as safety in the real world. With growing digitization of the world, I feel this is true for a large fraction of the population. This is why I chose to pursue a career in cybersecurity. Almost everything in cybersecurity excites me but if I have to pick sides, I would pick cryptography, application security and software security. My tryst with cybersecurity began in my sophomore year in college, when I was introduced to cryptography while reading through technical articles. Picking up from basic cryptography, I also read about penetration testing and learnt how to use tools such as Metasploit and Nmap. I spearheaded the formation of a information security club in my college, along with a few like-minded people and successfully increased the membership from 10 to 150. To further increase my knowledge and skills in the field, I opted to pursue a Masters in Cybersecurity from Johns Hopkins University, where I studied web and application security, applied cryptography, software security, risk management, penetration testing, and vulnerability analysis. I have studied networking concepts related to TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, SSL. I can write code in Python, Java, JavaScript, Shell, C++, PHP and Golang. I can learn programming languages easily, and hence they are not a barrier for me. I spent the summer of 2019 working at Adobe, San Jose, as an Application Security Researcher intern where my responsibilities included generating insights about Adobe’s security posture by performing root cause analysis on penetration test reports and categorizing the issues into buckets of similar issues, and developing strategies and techniques to find vulnerabilities in Magento extensions and using them to report vulnerable extensions to the product team.
