  • To support the emergence of new business models within the GAM hedge fund business, a number of high profile projects have been undertaken to replace or enhance existing systems. Business areas covered by these systems encompass Fund Fees, Cash Projections, Fund Setup, Accounting and Information Reporting. Primarily, the objective being, to deliver systems that not only meet today’s needs, but are open and flexible for future changes.
  • The systems are implemented using C#, Winforms, ASP.Net, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Jquery, DevExpress, MVP, MVVM, Prism, Unity, WCF, CAB, Web services, MSMQ, LINQ, Generics, XML, Oracle, ODP.Net, and PL/SQL.
  • Hence a number of User Interfaces were developed and enhanced to provide data maintenance, workflow, reporting and interfacing functionality. The latter also entailed the development of real-time message based interfaces to a number of external systems – SWIFT, Computron, GFAS and InvestOne.
  • The systems were developed using UML and strong OO principles combined with the use of design patterns. An iterative approach was used to ensure that the systems could evolve based on user feed back during the development phase. Implementation of the systems is based upon a multi-threaded, asynchronous front-end operating within a service-orientated architecture.

  • Global Order Management System
  • Portfolio Managers used a paper based system to capture orders and communicate these orders to Traders for subsequent execution. The remit of this project was to automate the order management and trading platform within an Order Management System (OMS).
  • OMS provides a global real-time platform for Portfolio Managers and Traders to capture, manage and quote orders which are then traded by interacting with an internal trading system. The system was designed using UML and strong OO principles coupled with the use of design patterns. Implementation of the system is based upon a service-orientated architecture, with the services developed in java running under Websphere and communication to the .Net client using JNbridge. Real-time communication between users is implemented via a notification service and performance is optimised using a multi-thread approach on the client.
  • The system was implemented using C#, Winforms, CAB, Java, Spring, Websphere, multi-threading, Transact-SQL, Sybase, NMock and JNBridge.
  • FX Hedging
  • The Treasury used an existing FX Hedging system to calculate FX trades that hedge against currency fluctuations. The exsisting system did not provide the necessary functionality required by the business. Therefore my remit was to redesign and re-develop the FX hedging system to substantially improve performance and provide additional functionality required by the business.
  • The system was designed using strong OO principles coupled with extensive use of design patterns. It was implemented using C#, ASP.Net, ADO.Net, multi-threading, Transact-SQL, InvestOne, Sybase, NUnit, NDoc and Autosys

  • Technical Lead on the Marshall Islands project at BGI. This project involved the out sourcing of BGI’s back office function to JP-MorganChase (JPMC), thereby allowing BGI to operate its front-desk trading and portfolio management systems in house, while its Transfer Agent, Custody and Accounting are performed offsite by JPMC. To achieve this, BGI trading systems were restructured to interface with the JPMC back office and accounting systems. The external interface is a combination of XML message transfer over an MQ-Series stored and forward bus (ESB) and swift messaging. Internally a number of existing systems had to be modified and a number of new front-end systems had to be developed to support the new operating infrastructure.
  • The system was implemented using C#, ASP.Net, ADO.Net, ASP, ADO, XML, XSLT, Transact-SQL, NUnit, Perl, Java, MQ Series and SWIFT Messaging.
