  • I used to moderate a highly active and volatile discord group with a few other nerds. Our group was constantly getting crowded by bots, and my role was to maintain a clean chat area and prevent any bot or promoter from entering the discord.
  • Throughout the time, I learned multiple ways, both manual and automated, to keep the discord clean, functional, and usable for members.
  • One of the first things I learned was how to set up an automated welcome message for new members. This would help to immediately let them know what our group was about and what the rules were. It also helped deter any would-be bot or promoter from even trying to enter the discord.
  • Another method I learned was using a bot to delete any messages that contained specific keywords or phrases automatically. This was an essential tool in keeping the chat clean and preventing spam or advertising from getting through.
  • Finally, I learned how to moderate the discord group manually. This involved constantly monitoring the chat for any bot activity or spam signs and then acting accordingly. This was often the most time-consuming part of my job, but it was also the most important.
