Nirjhar Das — Product Engineer

I am a 2nd year MTech (Research) student in the Dept. of Computer Science and Automation at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore under Prof. Siddharth Barman. I graduated with a Major in Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) along with a Minor in Cognitive and Intelligent Systems (AI). My interests and skills are focused on Theoretical Machine Learning, with particular familiarity with Learning Theory. Under Prof. Barman I am exploring interesting and novel problems at the intersection of learning theory, computational social choice and causality.Before IISc, I was a Research Intern with Dr. Gaurav Sinha at Microsoft Research India. At MSR, I worked on problems in multi-armed bandits, with a special focus on designing better algorithms for large action spaces. At IIT Delhi, I completed my BTech Thesis under Prof Arpan Chattopadhyay in the area of Reinforcement Learning and Multi-armed Bandits. My thesis was awarded the Best BTech Project in the Department. Further, part of my work received the Best Paper Award at PReMI 2023. I have also worked with Prof. Rahul Garg to develop a Yoga classifier using pose estimation while formulating new metrics to test the actual learnability of a model.I am always open to interesting and challenging problem statements, particularly in the domain of Learning Theory, Computational Social Choice and Causality.
