• Engineer on Maps Routing. Our team owns the core routing engine producing routelines and ETAs for driving, biking, and walking. This in turn powers Uber's marketplace, fares, and turn-by-turn directions.
• So far I have worked on a combination of systems projects (observability and efficiency) and algorithms projects (improving the quality of routes).

• I primarily managed two teams:
• The DOSA team. DOSA is an ORM-like storage abstraction to enhance developer productivity and insulate developers from changes to the underlying storage technology. For most of its history DOSA was backed by Cassandra, but towards the end of my time on the team we began implementing it on an alternative backend to which users were subsequently migrated.
• The Storage Portal team. Storage Portal is a one-stop shop for Uber developers to provision and manage the storage backing their services. Its launch unified a previously fragmented developer experience on a consistently high-quality set of tooling. I managed the team from inception and supported the growth of the team's future TLM into that role.
• Towards the end of my time in the role, I was also the manager of the TLM managing Uber's Redis team.

• I managed two teams (mostly at different times, but with some overlap):
• The team that owned the replication subsystems of Uber's Schemaless database, which stores Uber's largest-scale and most critical business data. The technologies owned by the team included first- and second-generation eventually-consistent cross-region replication and a within-region strongly consistent replication mechanism based on the Raft distributed consensus protocol.
• The DOSA team. DOSA is an ORM-like storage abstraction to enhance developer productivity and insulate developers from changes to the underlying storage technology.

Sep 2014 – Apr 2015 · 7 mos

• Built multi-master cross-datacenter replication for Uber's Schemaless database system (see link).
• This was the first cross-region-writable database in widespread use at at Uber and was a critical infrastructure component enabling the launch of Uber's China datacenters.
