About

I was a quantitative researcher at Graviton Research Capital for 2 years. I completed my PhD in Theoretical Physics in August 2023 with a specialisation in Condensed Matter Physics. Broadly speaking, my research was concerned with understanding the properties of matter at extremely low temperatures and confined to two dimensions (i.e. a very cold and thin piece of material). This involves developing mathematical models to predict said properties and then programming and running large computer simulations to test these predictions. I also have wide interests in mathematics, computer science and machine learning.

  • 8-week summer project on developing a robot to automatically quality test data line tape (for sending information in particle colliders).
  • More specifically:
  • Programmed the robot, using C#, to reliably measure nano-amp leakage currents in the presence of significant noise.
  • Used python to analyze calibration data from the robot, with the goal of improving calibration. Suitable improvements were then added to the calibration process (again using C#).

  • Developed software, written in python, for multi-objective optimisation of the Diamond light source particle accelerator.
  • More specifically:
  • Programmed a multi-objective version of simulated annealing and tested it on the machine.
  • Evaluated the performance of various optimization algorithms in the presence of significant noise in a simulated environment to see which might work best on the actual particle accelerator.
  • Some information in the publication:
