About

I am a seasoned engineering leader with a startup mindset and a track record of building high-performing remote teams. I am also an Agile evangelist and a promoter of DevOps culture (which sounds surprisingly old-fashioned if you think about it). Having significant experience in software engineering, architecture, UX research, and product development, I know how to help teams improve the engineering culture, find the right chemistry with non-tech parts of the organization, and build a better product. Above everything else, I enjoy unlocking people’s potential. When I come to a workplace, it is to make a meaningful change, and I tend to approach that in a very structured manner, like a project, working with various stakeholders across the company. That makes me a great interim CTO for hire, but also a valuable permanent team member. I believe engineering leadership at every level should be empowering, inclusive, and hands-on (at least in their spare time). These days, I am experimenting with Kotlin and writing a book about mindful software development culture.

  • At Backbase, I lead an organization of 70+ engineers in the CS department by empowering a group of technical leads and engineering managers. My main areas of focus are building high-performing teams, scaling the company across the globe, and improving collaboration with RnD, HR, Recruitment, and Academy departments. Presently, I am helping Backbase to improve the management culture and practices across the company by creating and running the Engineering Management chapter.
  • Achievements
  • ● Formed 3 autonomous and high-performing chapters (Mobile, Frontend, and QA) in the Engineering department by restructuring recruitment, onboarding, engineering practices and culture
  • ● Changed the approach to internal work from chaotic to organized across the engineering department by introducing and then facilitating the adoption of the OKR framework
  • ● Helped three engineers to become successful people managers and another two engineers to grow into tech lead positions by providing mentorship and equal opportunities within teams
  • ● As an interim Head of Remote, defined the practical implementation of a hybrid (remote-first) work model in the company by providing expert knowledge, organizing workshops, and facilitating the discussion within the leadership
  • ● Created a Diversity & Inclusion company strategy by creating and empowering a D&I workgroup and collaborating with Chief People Officer
  • ● Scaled development centers 10x in Poland and India by leading a cross-department recruitment acceleration initiative and working together with local engineering and recruitment leadership

Technical Manager

  • In this role, I managed a QA chapter (20+ engineers), helping them to adopt best-in-class engineering practices and become more established among other chapters by increasing awareness and collaboration as a part of the overall shift towards quality. I was also working as a technical project lead for multiple customers (banks), being responsible for communication with CTO and stakeholders, as well as architecture decisions. I’ve learned a great deal about customer relations and making tightly scheduled projects a success.
  • Achievements
  • ● Improved the efficiency of the QA chapter in a remote (pandemic) setup by introducing the OKR framework to organize the internal collaboration, knowledge sharing, and plan the rollout of new tools and practices across the projects
  • ● Launched a development center in Poland remotely from scratch in 9 weeks during the worst of the pandemic, hired the first engineering team and local leadership
  • ● Managed a portfolio of company accounts as a C-level counterpart, consulting around business-critical architecture decisions, and supported 2 successful go-lives
