  • Done stress testing python automation on key features of VMware ESXi Vsan.
  • Mainly into storage domain worked on VM, DISK, Raid, Hypervisors on the cluster level.
  • I owned below Vsan key features end to end:
  • A) Proactive rebalance,
  • B) Efficient De-duplication,
  • C) Disk Fault Injection and
  • D) Slack space management under U2, U3 resilience features.
  • (Python Automation)
  • Writing test case for higher scale VM’s with 60-70% fill-up disk to verify the boundary cases and check if it is crashing the system thereafter filing bug accordingly. (Psod)
  • Automation is done based on CLI (command line interface) and PyMovi module (VMware internal library).
  • We run the CLI as root user on the server getting the logs and by using python operation on the log getting the key values which later being used to determine if the test has been passed or failed.
  • Sometimes run get hung due to Psod in order to get the log we debug manually on ESX server using ILO tool in order to get the kernel zdump required for bug filing.
  • Running regressions and triaging almost 20-25 runs daily including weekends and filing bugs on daily basis, try best and hard not to file any duplicate bug means doing more analysis on each failure and hence saving developers time to find the exact root cause of the issue.

  • Project : DBAAS- Database as a service (Oracle Cloud Patching Effort)
  • OPCM and HDG.
  • Description : This is PAAS (Platform as a service) where creation of Virtual machine takes place post complete installation of Database with all its version and complete features done over the Virtual Machine. And most imp thing is whatever platform we do use is same as customer working platform and same environment so that our test cases run in customer environment and hit the bug which customer could hit in future.
  • Post VM creation and DB installation we write some sanity test cases which verify the old features (version oracle 11g).
  • Then we do patching by automating the script contains 4 steps:
  • a) List_patches, -> List out the available patch for patching.
  • b) Precheck_async -> before applying patch it check the conflict part.
  • c) Apply_async -> Process begins to apply the path on oracle version wise.
  • d) Rollback_async -> Post applying the patch we do have option to roll back the patch if in case anyone is comfortable with old version only.
  • After applying the patch we have more than 100+ number of test case to write and make sure those features are working if NOT then test it manually and re-create the issue FILE BUG with entire logs end to end.
  • Major Test cases are:
  • Oracle 12c: Creation of additional pdb and make sure post patching it works fine.
  • Oracle 12c: Installation of latest rpm tool version on VM else patching will go wrong.
  • Data Guard Test, Replication check, Switch over test, Switch back test etc all done by automation.
  • All these are done post patching and post roll back.
  • And making sure my new code part for any new features is not breaking any old features functionality. Running triage on every new release version which contains 1000+ lrgs with more than 10000 results which take 10 days to analyze and make proper report including filing bugs for features functionality break in case of major break else all well.
