  • As a founding member of Qure.ai, he led and contributed to developing AI for healthcare. He is instrumental is development of qER, a neuro AI tool. He publishes his work in scientific conferences, journals, qure's blog and his own personal blog. He is particularly proud of his publication in The Lancet.
  • He contributed significantly to PyTorch, a deep learning framework used by many organizations around the world. He had also made numerous contributions to opensource and maintains an active profile on github. Some of his contributions include Keras, SimpleITK, Scikit-Learn libaries. His own projects on image rectification and feature extraction are popular.

Housing.com

Data Scientist

Oct 2015Feb 2016 · 4 mos

  • Housing.com, a real estate tech startup from his alma mater (IITB), inspired him and other kids from his school to start up. So he joined it after his schooling. During his short stint at housing, he worked on applying NLP on their discussion forum - IREF.
  • As you probably know, text in web forums are especially noisy and quite hard to work with. So, he had to work around these constraints to do some cool AI stuff on that text. Another theme of his work at housing is classification/summarization of the text - keyphrase extraction and text summarization. If you think about it, summarization is some sort of unsupervised classification. His techniques at Housing were completely 'classical'. He got exposed to Deep Learning at the end of his stint.
  • Unfortunately, he had to leave Housing due to its financial troubles. His next stint, Qure.ai, turns out to be super interesting!

  • During his UG, Sasank always wanted to go to grad school and do some science. So, he wanted to try his hand at research at a western university. He ended up getting this internship at center for optics, photonics and lasers to work on optical fiber communication systems. He got a chance to work on some deep research on optimizing these systems from an information theory point of view. Exact research topic is: "coded modulation for coherent optical communication systems".

  • Since his childhood, Sasank was always interested in math. In IITB, MA 105 - Intro to Calculus, caught his imagination with the amount of rigor and formalism possible in math. He loved the course so much so that he went on to complete a minor in Math - considered one of the toughest (and boring) minor of his school.
  • He also wanted to pass on his love for Math by teaching his juniors. Luckily, Math department looks out for senior UGs along with grad students as TAs. So that's how he got opportunity to tutor 40 strength class once a week helping them solve tutorial sheets and clarifying doubts among. He also scrutinized homework and answer sheets.
  • He did this for about 3/4 courses. This earned him a handsome (for a poor student) stipend that eventually allowed him to buy cool tech - his first smartphone.
