• Worked on the compute and storage layer of Reflex, a big data platform for batch and stream processing which can be used to build a variety of analytics applications on top of it.
• Worked on Hive and Spark/SparkSQL internals. Made many custom changes in both the engines. Company’s Spark distribution was one on the few Databricks certified distribution.
• Played a key role in the re-architecture of the platform and moving it over Spark from Hadoop.
• Built a petabyte scale data-store for timeseries data and OLAP cubes over Spark using columnar storage formats like Parquet and ORC. Features included flat and star schema, backup/restore, schema upgrades, string-id management, integration of data science libraries using UDFs/UDAFs etc.
• Worked on an in-house distributed columnar database. Enhanced it with features like distributed hash joins and aggregations, fast filtering by predicate push down, caching, aggregation support for custom byte buffers, integration of in-house data science libraries, periodic backup and restore.
