About

I have extensive experience with building and maintaining low latency, highly available, distributed software systems that operate at scale. Since I joined the Amazon Development Center in Hyderabad at it's inception (was the third developer to join), I've had the opportunity to build multiple teams ground-up. In 2007, I built my first team from scratch - we began with one software service which we built back then to building an entire fleet of 10+ services operating with a tier-1 charter and as a single point of failure for outbound shipping capabilities in our worldwide transportation network. I've also enjoyed the opportunities this provided to build scalable, forward-looking solutions that moved the strategic needle for Amazon - not as funky as drones but disruptive nonetheless like Sunday Delivery, Amazon Fresh and Prime Now! Since 2017, I've taken on a BizTech role to drive greater impact by connecting the dots across business and technology. As part of this, I've owned and grown multiple business program teams and their underlying operations to deliver strategic goals; in addition to organically growing the technology teams and products that fuel and scale our overall business as we look to disrupt the Seller Experience across Amazon's worldwide marketplaces. I enjoy being able to view technology through the broader business lens that makes us work backwards from the right end-priorities and truly leverage technology as a key enabler for business. Given the global scope of the teams I've managed, I've had to extensively interface with cross-regional stakeholders and leadership across the world and this is something I enjoy doing. I've also been actively associated with hiring - I've been a part of Amazon's Bar Raiser group since 2007 and have done more than 1500 interviews for Amazon. Other than that, I remain passionate about taking bold bets, hiring and building cohesive teams, growing senior leaders to force-multiply and enjoy interacting with people and learning from them.

Blink health

Head of India, Engineering

  • As the first e-commerce company to bring prescriptions online in the US, Blink Health solves the prescription drug pricing problem by offering patients incredibly lower prices. Patients simply pay for their prescriptions online, before picking them up at their preferred pharmacy or having them delivered to their home through a flexible set of product offerings.
  • We're currently setting up Blink's Product Engineering centers in India to accelerate our overall product development pace to address the massive opportunity that the space presents. We're aggressively hiring across Product Engineering roles (Software Development/Product/Program) and looking for our leaders who can take us places! If you're driven by high social impact, end-to-end product ownership, solving complex problems at scale and generally disrupting an industry that's been under-invested on technology, please reach out. It's a great opportunity to be a part of history as we start to make it!

  • Leading a 300 people org cutting across Technology and Business Programs focused on driving seller growth across Amazon's global marketplaces.
  • I own the central Technology group that powers and adds scale to our worldwide seller growth business - our teams own strategic initiatives like end-to-end solutions for generating and delivering recommendations across channels for seller growth and global selection expansion through an aggregation of machine learning based strategies including closed-loop feedback and interactive end-user experiences. We also own tech solutions for driving global availability of high-demand selection by innovatively combining our large global seller population with Amazon's comprehensive network and logistical capabilities. Additionally, my tech teams own solutions that drive growth of our B2B business by enabling a larger seller and selection base for our B2B customers to complement our best-in-class B2C solutions.
  • I've conceptualized and evolved our business programs to scientifically prioritize high-potential sellers, identify key growth drivers for a compelling call-to-action and engagement through sales teams by leveraging low-touch, technology-driven outreach mechanisms to scale across a global seller population. Invented key metrics to pivot programs on strategic business levers and optimized goal definition and execution to deliver multi-billion dollar goals across programs.
  • My role also requires force-multiplication through hiring, developing and managing multiple senior leaders across functions like software development, technical program management, business program management and product management.

  • Built a central technology group from scratch focused on making selling on Amazon as friction-free and seamless as possible for our sellers worldwide through tech-driven innovation. We disrupted the existing seller experience through solutions like 1-click volume listing of products in sellers' own format and automated discovery and potential attribution of prospective sellers on Amazon. These solutions required us to automatically ingest data from a variety of heterogeneous sources (including web and image processing), semantically analyze unstructured/multi-lingual information, perform automated product classification and attribute extraction, support partial attribute based matching heuristics apart from smart transformation of information to the Amazon namespace and adhering to our marketplace standards. The strategies heavily employed generic data ingestion techniques, natural language processing, machine learning and localization (semantic language translation) with a need to scale across the combination of our worldwide sellers, marketplaces and catalogs/products. Over time, these solutions have not only transformed the underlying seller experience but also added over 200 million products to our catalog worldwide and significantly improved our ability to predict seller potential through selection and seller-based attributes.

  • Built the software development team that owns core fulfillment operations for Transportation. This involves package shipping plan orchestration (including in-flight re-planning), package event management, shipping label generation and interfacing with carrier networks for package visibility and manifest transmission. This also included modeling and owning the data store that served as the container authority within Transportation. Our core services operate with tier-1 availability, real-time latencies and are a single point of failure for shipping capability in our network. Since these systems touch every package being shipped by Amazon, they scale to several million packages daily and a couple billion in a year (as of 2014).
  • I've also owned the configuration platform which allows our business/operations teams to model our global Transportation network in near real-time and in a self-served manner. The key challenges here were building intuitive interfaces for a complex and continuously evolving network, dealing with large scale data that such changes typically involve and injecting them into the network with minimal turnaround for emergent scenarios.
  • Key responsibilities: product vision / road-map management, people management, leadership management, stakeholder management, project planning, design reviews and technical mentoring.

  • Built from scratch, Amazon's software services related to Carrier Routing to operate in a high volume, distributed environment. Primary challenges were with providing real time responses (<100 ms SLA), scaling to volume (pretty much every package that ships through Amazon) and interfacing with a heterogeneous network of carrier systems across multiple geographies (North America/Europe/Asia).
  • Key responsibilities: requirements gathering, design, implementation, design/code reviews, project management and providing mentorship to team members.
