Sumit is a graduate in Marketing & finance form XLRI Jamshedpur (2018-20 batch). He interned in Marketing and Strategy with AstraZeneca in the summer of 2019 and was awarded a full-time return offer as Management Trainee, upon graduation. At XLRI, he had taken a diverse set of courses in marketing, finance, and operations which helped him build a solid understanding of different business functions and their interdependence. Sumit is particularly interested in building data-driven strategies and business analytics. He loves the application of statistics and data science in different domains of business At AstraZeneca, he analyzed the sales force deployment across India for a major cardiovascular drug. He rationalized the salesforce by market potential and recommended 22 new cities to deploy sales force. He also estimated the expected sales from these new cities by building a multiple regression model incorporating internal and external data. The new recommendation has the potential to increase sales by 20%. He also performed an intra-city call plan analysis and recommended redistribution of sales force efforts (time) according to the market share of different areas. Finally, he did a cost-benefit analysis and found out non-performing cities to be discontinued. Before his MBA, he had worked for 2 years as a Data scientist at Mu Sigma. At Mu Sigma he provided analytical consulting in customer strategy and marketing to a US pharmaceutical giant helping them acquire new customers and increase sales of newly launched products. There he weekly interacted with regional management team providing critical inputs for analytical Tableau dashboards resulting in 100% utilization of tools by territory and area managers.
