• I was awarded a full scholarship to research as an undergrad student. Here's an overview of what I did:
• Research Topic and goal: The de Bruijn graphs (DBG) are most commonly used data structure for high throughput sequencing, especially in genome indexing. My goal was to modify the current implementation of DBGs to make it more efficient.
• Research results: I found that DBGs used "BBHash" algorithm for building minimal perfect Hash functions which is required for searching and indexing data. I changed the implementation of DBGs to use a better suited algorithm called "RecSplit" that improved its performance by 15%. Results was measured and documented at the end of my research.
