  • This course is an introductory course for students interested in science and engineering and allows A-Level students to observe, conduct and appreciate the working atmosphere of the university. In this course I got an insight into renewable energy technologies and their applications in the local area. Examples include the burning of waste to generate heat and then electricity for the surrounding towns, low-head hydroelectric power in the nearby river and the use of fuel cells run by hydrogen. A group of students were split into 8 groups of 4 and we had to research and present work involving the use of prototype energy solutions in the English Channel. Furthermore we got to experience university life and interacted with students across a variety of years and disciplines.
