About

I am Monica Malik, a Security Engineer at NetApp Bangalore, India. I am originally from Delhi, India. I completed my Master's in Information Security Management from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW). I am a member of FIRST PSIRT-SIG and the Women of FIRST (WoF) community, a group of gender-diverse security practitioners who aim to encourage women's advancement and increase the participation of women in all aspects of cyber security through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and networking. So far, we are only 50 members in WoF, and the list is growing. I recently got Spot Award for exceptional business delivery, innovation, technical eminence, and dedicated contributions for going above and beyond during the significant security breach 'Log4j' event on December'21. As a tech enthusiast and cybersecurity lover, I keep researching new security issues and how to overcome them. I recently got selected as a Research Scholar at IGDTUW, where I will be pursuing my Ph.D. in Cyber Security. I am a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH v10). As I enjoy researching, I keep writing my findings and have six publications in IEEE, Springer, Elsevier, and IGI Global.  I am a member of Women In Technology at NetApp, which gives me a platform to share my thoughts, opinion, and a platform to explore more about Women in Tech. I am a member of the WomenWhoCode community. I have attended Grace Hopper Celebration, India (GHCI) events in the past as well.  I have volunteered in NGOs and Virtual Volunteering Programs and keep volunteering for many events. I volunteered with school students and helped them build their Python Projects during the Summer Program. I genuinely believe volunteerism lets people and communities participate in their own growth. Through volunteering, one builds resilience, enhances their knowledge, and improves self-esteem. I am also a volunteer at Minerva: AUW Mentoring Program; recently, I mentored a girl for six months from Bangladesh University and helped her build her carrier. And will keep mentoring more students. Outside work, I love tennis, swimming, traveling, trekking, cooking, binge-watching, and spending time with my family and friends.
