I worked on producing vector versions of common “halftone filters”. Halftone filters are traditionally used in rendering graphics for low-resolution ink or pigment media such as newspapers. Because of this association, they are also useful as an artistic effect. I wrote Inkscape (open source vector graphics editor) extensions that can halftone an input raster or vector image. The extension output is in the standard SVG vector format, and is compatible with the Inkscape.
