•  In charge of macroeconomic coverage for the U.S. economy. Responsible for providing regular commentary oncentral bank policy, tracking indicators such as inflation, employment and trade and equally importantly, and howchanges in some of these factors may affect the commercial real estate sector.
•  Improved the employment forecasting model such that the forecasts are more in sync with the firm’s broader macroeconomic factors. Responsible for writing the US macroeconomic outlook every quarter.
•  Responsible for analyses and commentary on the U.S. industrial real estate sector, including regular monitoring of variables such as rent growth, demand for new commercial real estate space, availability/ vacancy rates, new projects under construction. My role has also become a lot more client focussed over time and with experience.
•  Updated the forecasting method for the US and Canada Industrial sector. Where the previous method relied on structural models to forecast real estate metrics, the revamped model now uses a more dynamic Vector Autoregressive model. Used back-tests to show that the enhanced model captures turning points better.
•  Regular contributor to the firm’s blog-posts. Ad-hoc research on – the “renting vs owning homes” debate among millennials and other age cohorts using cross-sectional data; how different types of recessions affect commercial real estate and whether certain sectors can function as a safe haven during a particular type of recession.

• Was responsible for providing macroeconomic coverage on the Eurozone, with a special focus on peripheral Eurozone economies (Spain, Portugal, Greece and Ireland)
• Monthly commentary on the Eurozone, German & French Purchasing Managers’ Indices (PMI), Eurozone inflation and the ECB’s monetary policy.
• Worked on the quarterly economic outlook for Portugal and any ad-hoc research for the Chief European economist.
• Key topics covered – what form quantitative easing (QE) could take on in the Eurozone; comparing and contrasting QE in the Eurozone, the US, the UK and Japan – including the composition and timing of asset purchases and the channels of influence of QE (credit, balance sheet or exchange rate channel).
• Other important topics covered (to name a few) – tracking the progress of structural reforms in the EU and commenting on whether the favourable trade balances in some peripheral economies in 2014 were largely due to structural adjustments or cyclical factors.
