About

Senior Software Engineer | Innovation For the past 6+ years, I’ve worked on the hardest parts of the device-to-cloud stack: secure element lifecycle, payments provisioning, and backend systems that are built to scale and stay reliable. A few things I’m proud of: Built from zero: Designed and implemented SEI-TSM / SP-TSM systems for payment wearables, owning secure element lifecycle management and Mastercard/NPCI provisioning. Scaled wellness platforms: Architected backend services supporting 10,000+ users, with a focus on performance, observability, and reliability. Most of my work lives in the backend layer: Node.js (Express)/TypeScript + Python (Flask), designing APIs that are idempotent, retry-safe, and production-friendly (webhooks, async workflows, observability, failure handling). On the infrastructure side I’m comfortable with AWS (ECS/Lambda/EC2/S3), and I’ve also worked closely with Java/Android. I enjoy figuring out what matters, and turning messy requirements into clean systems. My experience across Payments (PCI DSS) and Healthcare shapes how I build: secure by default, compliant when needed, and always user-first. https://github.com/shruthiakkal https://medium.com/@samakkal

  • Respiration rate detection algorithm: Built and deployed a Respiration rate detection algorithm in Python from PPG signal. The algorithm achieved an accuracy of +-1.5 breath per minute (bpm) in the normal range. Range of prediction 10 - 40 bpm.
  • Central healthcare monitoring system: Worked with PM and developers in developing a centralized health monitoring system using Nodejs, MongoDB, Firebase and Twilio APIs. This system is used to monitor the vitals of the patients in real-time and has been deployed in 3 hospitals.

  • Patient health status and Alerts: Responsible for the development and deployment of patient health status logic and alert system in the Central Monitoring System using Python, MongoDB, Twilio APIs and Firebase.
  • Analysis: Conducted statistical analysis on de-identified patient data. The purpose of this study was to validate and improve existing health algorithms. Validation was done for heart rate and SpO2 and Respiration rate algorithms were modified.
  • Health Status for app users: Responsible for developing and deploying Health Status feature in Muse health app using Python(Flask). Created logic to analyze user’s vitals (heart rate, respiration rate, SpO2, body temperature and heart rate variability) to create individualized baseline values and track user’s health by checking variation from the baselines.
