Shruti Bhargava — Lead ML Engineer

I work at the intersection of conversational AI and large language models (LLMs), advancing the capabilities of voice assistants. My focus lies in data and modeling for complex conversational understanding, with an emphasis on building systems that are robust, fair, and impactful. At Apple, I was part of the founding four-member team that transformed Siri with multimodal context understanding, bringing “eyes” to Siri. I led the data collection strategy and model design, building lightweight models that interpret on-screen and contextual information across iPhone, Vision Pro, and other platforms, all while prioritizing user privacy. Beyond product development, I have published research on LLMs at venues including NAACL, EACL, and EMNLP. My work spans synthetic data generation, how LLMs understand context, and how quantization impacts that understanding, bridging scientific advances with practical applications. Previously, I explored bias in image captioning models under Prof. David Forsyth for my MS thesis, which deepened my commitment to socially responsible AI. I earned my Bachelor’s in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, where I worked with Prof. Purushottam Kar on optimization and online learning. I’m passionate about creating technology that is socially relevant, human-centered, and scalable.
