About

I am a CSE graduate from IIIT Delhi and pursued a Computing Fellowship from CERN, and am keen to build new things. I used to work in the Batch and HPC teams of CERN in DevOps, IaC, and Automation. I also serve as an open-source maintainer for the StackStorm project. Previously, I also worked at Tower Research Capital as a Core Engineering Software Developer in the High-Performance Computing team and at Myntra as a Software Engineer in the analytics team. Especially fascinated by innovation and technology, I am a developer and a hacker. I am profoundly influenced by the open-source and hacker communities. I have attended numerous conferences and hackathons, and I possess a little management and organizational experience. I am proficient in multiple programming languages: Python, Ruby, Golang, C, Java, and JavaScript. I have previously developed websites in Rails, Flask, JS, Java, Python, etc.; worked on a few Android applications; set up and managed data stores and pipelines for various scales of data; finally moved into DevOps and ended up managing Infrastructures to up to (almost) exascale systems. I have decent design skills and thus consider myself to be a Full Stack Web Developer, while also a DevOps engineer and Software Architect. I am experienced in building a product, from ideation and prototyping to deployment and scaling. I have closely worked with research groups consisting of professors, and postgrad and undergrad students at my institute and at CERN. My professional experience extends to working as an intern and then as a team member for Backpack, a startup founded by our alumni, which is used in various colleges, by thousands of students, and professors across India. I also worked on multiple projects as a freelance developer and experimented with building startup(s) of my own. I have been a participant and prize holder in multiple hackathons (previously in my college days): PolicyHack, HackCancer, HackDelhi, and AngelHack, building some amazing prototypes. As a prize for PolicyHack, my team and I were invited to Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts for a week, to further brainstorm and iterate with the EPoD team.

Cern

Computing Fellow

Sep 2020Feb 2023 · 2 yrs 5 mos · Geneva, Switzerland

  • Worked as a part of the Compute and Config Team in the IT Department of CERN with the Batch and HPC teams on the DevOps and Automation aspects of managing the compute clusters of CERN (~250k CPU cores) which provide the WLCG Tier0, share and HPC computing for the all the experiments and departments at CERN.
  • My main project during the Fellowship has been to work on architecting new solutions for the management of the lifecycle and health of our servers (which act as compute nodes for the cluster), which are run on our on-prem OpenStack cloud, provisioned with Puppet, run HTCondor (or Slurm for HPC), and then monitored and maintained using a plethora of tooling build around the system.
  • My main contribution has been in introducing Auto-Remediation to our clusters, which uses StackStorm to act on various triggers based on our monitoring and run finely crafted workflows that can attempt to auto-diagnose and repair issues in the system before escalating to human operators. A few of the workflows in production currently are already saving 1000s of man-hours that would have been spent on those procedures, that were otherwise manual earlier. This work has been presented at the HEPiX conference in Umeå, Sweden on 01/11/2022.
  • Apart from my primary role, I also serve as a CERN WhiteHat, a WIT mentor, and an official guide.

  • I worked as a part of a small team on the Mouve app, an image/video editing app to make animated stories for social media, which amassed 100k+ downloads and 1k+ paid users, and had a bunch of influencers using our product to create their daily content. I helped architect and engineer the backend and data layers of the product to adapt to the fast user growth and provide a resilient infrastructure, while also collaborating closely with the founders in designing the product and working on the overall user experience.

Entrepreneur

Jan 2015Sep 2017 · 2 yrs 8 mos · Delhi, India

  • I started and joined various early-phase projects to solve problems that seem interesting to me and explore more.
  • I was the co-founder of a (now defunct) startup FestaVesta in the event tech space, which gained around 100k users and also had marginal revenue through our collaborations. We started this as a college project, but it became bigger than we asked for.
  • I worked with EnergyGrade, a solar startup in India, in developing and prototyping new solutions for rooftop solar in India.
  • I also collaborated on a project with EPOD India and Delhi Government to solve the water crisis and its supply chain sources using technology-enabled solutions. One such project currently live involves making new water tanks for last-mile distribution that track water levels and locations to prevent leakage or hijacking.
  • In all these experiences, I have worked with people around the globe, to bring new perspectives on different projects. I also took part in various hackathons globally and was often awarded for my ideas and projects.
