About

I spend most of my days trying to figure out why molecules do what they do, a curiosity that has recently led me from India to the historic city of Kyoto, Japan. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Fukui Institute for Fundamental Chemistry (FIFC), Kyoto University, I continue to play "molecular detective" with supercomputers. It is a profound honor to conduct research within the legacy of Nobel Laureate Kenichi Fukui, working in the group of Professor Kazunari Yoshizawa (a former Ph.D. student of Dr. Fukui). My Scientific Focus My expertise lies in Computational Chemistry, where I use advanced simulations to peek into reactions that happen too fast for the naked eye. My research journey, which began during my Ph.D. at IIT Roorkee, focuses on: Catalytic Reactions: Specialized in C-H functionalization and complex coupling reactions. Mechanism Discovery: Solving high-stakes puzzles where conventional DFT fails, often diving into multireference methods for challenging iron complexes. Theory-Experiment Synergy: I’ve published 15 papers ranging from boron-catalyzed CO2 conversion to palladium-catalyzed transformations. Current Chapter Currently, I am immersed in the world of fundamental chemistry in Kyoto, exploring how computational insights can drive the next generation of sustainable chemistry and catalysis. I am always eager to collaborate with fellow researchers, experimental groups, or anyone curious about the invisible world of molecular mechanisms. 🔗 Explore my research: https://sites.google.com/view/nikunjphd
