About

A little about me, I am the Co-Founder of Her Haq a youth-led non-profit organisation working towards creating an ideal world where no woman has to fight to make her voice heard. We focus on menstrual hygiene management, financial literacy and legal literacy. Along with these three pillars, I actively work on mentoring young people especially young women for leadership and advocate for social change. Additionally I am currently pursuing my LLB from from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, DU and completed my PG Diploma in International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law and Refugee Law and my undergraduate degree in History at Lady Shri Ram College for women. I am US Department alumna and was a SUSI scholar, being one of the four girls nominated to represent India for a fully funded women's leadership fellowship with the US Department of State. During the pandemic, I Co-founded of Covid Fighters India, one of the biggest Covid Relief initiatives in the country which came up during the second wave and had more than 13,000+ volunteers. We worked as an emergency responses team to help people through the power of the digital world get access to healthcare. I have worked with Beyond Capital Ventures, a women led VC firm investing in India and Africa with a social impact lens, UNESCO's Cluster Offices, The Quint and was also a part of the founding team at The Udaiti Foundation which focused on empowering women economically. As someone who deeply believes in the power of community and advocacy, I was a part of the Young People's Action Team cohort of UNICEF and was on the Evaluation Committee for UNICEF India Youth Advocates Programme. I have received several recognitions for my work including the HT She Slays Award for Social Cause, the LinkedIn Top Voice for Social Impact in India and the Kamala Power Award for Social Work.

The udaiti foundation

Program Associate, Founding Team

Mar 2022Oct 2023 · 1 yr 7 mos · India

  • Udaiti aims to drastically improve women’s empowerment in India. Women’s empowerment is both a moral imperative and a prerequisite for India’s social and economic progress. However, in 2021, India dropped 28 places in the Global Gender Gap Index, and now ranks 140 out of 156. The barriers to women’s empowerment, such as limited economic opportunities, lack of agency and decision-making power, and fundamental infrastructure (e.g. safety, mobility) are complex and interlinked, and require a holistic approach to the problem.
  • To accelerate women’s empowerment in India, Udaiti will initially focus on three key areas:
  • Employment: doubling the female labor force participation rate and increasing female-owned enterprises from 20% to 30% in the next 15 years
  • Safety: Women are, and feel safe at home, at work, and in public places
  • Agency: Increasing women’s decision-making power at home, at work, and in the community
  • Udaiti aims to be the leading organisation working on women’s empowerment in the country. This will require taking a foundation approach and utilizing a variety of levers, such as building political salience, engaging with the private sector, innovating and using markets, providing seed funding and shaping supply, and building the ecosystem in this area.

  • Pratisandhi was conceptualized as a response to the dilapidated conditions of sexual health awareness in India, especially among the sexually active youth community. It is an initiative that aims to provide the youth with a safe space in a society that tends to pander to behavior according to conservative and personal morals. We believe that it is essential for adolescents to be able to question the beliefs they are led to believe as children. We want to create a difference through the means of educating our youth in a manner through which they can become self-aware individuals who can make smarter decisions. We believe that everyone has the right to have access to information free from judgment in a manner that helps them understand the choices available to them.
  • The primary aim of this initiative is to promote conversations, dialogue, and awareness of sexual health and education in India, with a special emphasis on the lower strata of society.
  • Behind Pratisandhi is a group of dedicated people with a shared goal of creating an open space where teenagers can come to find the answers they’re always looking for but never seem to find – those about the changes that their bodies are going through and how they’re supposed to deal with them. The idea is to create self-awareness among them and equip them with the knowledge necessary to make smarter decisions throughout what can be a confusing time in their lives.
  • Pratisandhi wants to bring forth a platform that can allow for openness regarding issues that are considered a taboo in our society in order to move towards a more progressive mindset.
