About

Stories have always been my way of understanding the world. Curiosity drives me - learning, travelling and exploring new ideas constantly shape the way I approach storytelling. Over the years my work has evolved around a simple idea: storytelling is both craft and strategy. Whether in cinema, branded narratives or cultural storytelling, I am interested in how stories connect people, ideas and institutions across different worlds. As a producer–director and founder of Nilakshi Sengupta Communications, I have spent decades exploring narrative across formats—from early broadcast formats like LoBand and HiBand, to Betacam and DigiBeta, and now to the mobile-first ecosystems shaping today’s content landscape. Technology has always fascinated me, and I believe storytelling evolves in conversation with the tools and platforms through which audiences experience it. Alongside my professional work, teaching and mentoring young filmmakers has remained an important part of my journey. Watching new creators shape the future of storytelling keeps my own curiosity alive and constantly evolving. Today my focus is increasingly on original cinematic narratives and narrative IP, exploring how stories can move fluidly across platforms—films, books and emerging storytelling ecosystems. I am also deeply interested in creating immersive storytelling experiences for children, where art, narrative and imagination come together to nurture curiosity and creative thinking. Through these explorations, I continue to study how stories move across cultures, technologies and formats - while still fulfilling their most timeless role: helping us understand ourselves and the world around us.

  • Tina’s World is a storytelling universe I am creating for children - where stories, art and imagination come together. It began as a series of story-and-drawing books that invite children not just to read, but to enter the story and create within it.
  • The project is gradually expanding into a larger narrative ecosystem including books, audio storytelling and interactive creative spaces.
  • My dream is to build environments where children can explore stories through art, curiosity and play - experiencing storytelling not just as something they consume, but as a world they can step into and shape.

  • Teaching has been an integral part of my journey since 2000, when I began my first batch at Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC). Over the years I have worked with institutions including Whistling Woods, SRFTII, Visva-Bharati, MET and Don Bosco, mentoring young filmmakers and storytellers. It is deeply rewarding to see many former students now working across platforms, studios and production houses—often as serious decision-makers shaping the next generation of content.
