During the emergency period (1975-77), I was arrested and faced significant hardships. Born on 24 May 1945 in Pinarayi, Kannur district, I am the 14th son of Mundayil Koran and Kalyani. I completed my pre-university and degree courses at Government Brennen College, Thalassery. I have been elected to the Kerala Assembly multiple times: in 1970, 1977, and 1991 from Koothuparamba constituency, in 1996 from Payyannur constituency, and in 2016 from Dharmadam constituency.
