About

I have been serving as the Chief Minister of Kerala and representing the Dharmadam constituency as its MLA in the Kerala Legislative Assembly since 2016. My tenure has been marked by leading the state through significant challenges, including the floods of 2018 and 2019, the Nipah outbreak, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these adversities, my government has achieved remarkable developments in Kerala, ensuring the welfare of the people and making substantial progress across various sectors. Previously, I had the privilege of serving in the Left Democratic Front Government under Shri E.K. Nayanar as the Minister for Electricity and Co-operation from 1996 to 1998. During this period, Kerala made significant strides towards self-sufficiency in the generation and distribution of electricity, setting new standards for the state's energy sector. I am a member of the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and served as the secretary of the Kerala State Committee of the CPI(M) from 1998 to 2015. My journey in politics began through student union activities at Government Brennen College, Thalassery, where I joined the Communist Party in 1964. During the emergency period (1975-77), I was arrested and faced significant hardships. Born on 24 May 1945 in Pinarayi, Kannur district, I am the 14th son of Mundayil Koran and Kalyani. I completed my pre-university and degree courses at Government Brennen College, Thalassery. I have been elected to the Kerala Assembly multiple times: in 1970, 1977, and 1991 from Koothuparamba constituency, in 1996 from Payyannur constituency, and in 2016 from Dharmadam constituency. My commitment to the people of Kerala and my dedication to sustainable development remain steadfast as I continue to lead the state towards a prosperous future.
