About

After 25 years of applying quantitative models to real world problems, I get as excited today as I did back then when seeing how my statistical models help improve decision making processes, reveal new insights, and help my company succeed. My professorial days in academia taught me how to manage and lead research projects beginning with conception of the research question to delivery of a final report that was readable and actionable. Applying these skills in the tech industry is enjoyable and challenging. Advances in the field of data science are happening at break-neck speed and I love it. Working on projects ranging from NLP, deep learning, to classic stochastic models make for an exciting work day. The best part of my job are the colleagues with whom I work. I manage a team of brilliant data scientists analysts and engineers who have a wide variety of talents. Each brings their personal strengths to the group and are willing to share their knowledge for the betterment of the team and the projects we work on. They are consistently teaching me new modeling techniques and how to be more efficient when coding various algorithms. Our goal is to help improve our bottom line while adhering to solid scientific principles. My tools of the trade: Development: Python, OpenAI, LlamaIndex, LangChain, Keras, Tensorflow, R, Bash, Shell, MySQL, Linux, Github, Jira, and Confluence Visualization: Domo, Tableau (or any other visualization front end necessary) Cloud Technologies: Amazon AWS EC2, RDS, Sagemaker

  • At Reputation, I lead a multidisciplinary AI team of machine learning engineers, data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers. Together, we build products and scalable AI systems that help multi-location businesses extract strategic insights from unstructured customer feedback from reviews, surveys, social content, and more.
  • Our portfolio includes conversational interfaces that enable users to query feedback data in natural language, real-time writing tools that ensure brand-consistent communication, and intelligent benchmarking systems that highlight performance gaps and growth opportunities across brands and locations.
  • As a service-oriented leader and career builder, I focus on empowering people to grow while delivering business-critical innovation. I stay closely connected to the code, continuously exploring new technologies and patterns to ensure our solutions are modern, efficient, and impactful. I believe the best outcomes happen when technical excellence and personal growth go hand-in-hand.
  • To accelerate innovation and reduce reliance on third-party tools, we’ve developed high-performance, in-house NLP pipelines for clustering, classification, and prediction using modern transformer-based architectures. These solutions have delivered broader insight coverage, improved precision, and reduced costs, while giving us full control to tune models to domain-specific needs.
  • We also work with modern ML tooling and infrastructure, including but not limited to OpenAI, Hugging Face, Langfuse, Qdrant, Pytorch and GPU-enabled inference systems. Everything we deliver is designed to drive business outcomes: faster decisions, stronger customer engagement, and smarter strategic execution.

Jun 2014Jul 2016 · 2 yrs 1 mo · Provo, Utah

  • Sociologists study the social world by examining phenomena through a particular theoretical lens (or multiple lenses) and often use quantitative methods to test the validity of theories through hypotheses derived from them. My goal is to teach students the fundamental skills sociologists use to conduct quantitative research via three basic components: (1) how to ask good sociological questions and turn them into research projects with testable hypotheses; (2) how to get the data needed to answer these questions; and (3) how to manage, present, and visualize data to tell a a valid, defensible, and interesting quantitative story. Specifically, learn how to communicate research findings through writing and visualization (with diagrams, tables, and graphs). Major learning outcomes include conducting statistical analyses including univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis; learning to code and interpret qualitative data or how to code and prepare quantitative data for statistical analysis; and become critical consumers of information via the development of logical thinking skills.
