About

I'm a commercial and regulatory lawyer with a decade of experience working in the video games and wider interactive entertainment industry. I advise on the legal and business aspects of running digital entertainment businesses, with a particular focus on negotiation of complex deals, regulation and exploitation of intellectual property. I work exclusively within the interactive entertainment industry, and am exceptionally lucky to work with a wide range of incredible clients spanning developers, publishers, distributors, tech providers and esports businesses. This, together with the fact that my practice includes clients of all sizes spread around the world, gives me a hugely valuable cross-industry and cross-jurisdictional perspective on industry developments, challenges and market practices.

Research Assistant

Jun 2011Aug 2011 · 2 mos

  • This was a very intensive 8 week research project into over-criminalisation (i.e. whether or not there are too many criminal laws) during the last Labour government. My task was to find out how many criminal offences were brought into law during a certain 2 year period, analyse each of these in depth to determine the various elements of the crime, the possible penalties etc, and present these in an easily digestible form. How I was to go about achieving this was very much up to me.
  • I was working independently throughout most of the project so was largely left to my own devices to implement a research plan, timetable, set milestones, organise catch up meetings, analyse data, review work, resolve issues, communicate findings and so on. Over the course of the project I analysed and recorded over 2000 criminal offences.
  • The research I had carried out was later used as the foundation for a paper published in the Oxford Journal of CLP.
