• Abhilash Tomy served in the Indian Navy for over two decades, where he built an exceptional record as an aviator, executive officer, and expedition leader. As a maritime reconnaissance pilot, he conducted surveillance, search and rescue, and coastal security missions across the Indian Ocean Region, logging more than 1,300 hours of accident-free flying on Dornier 228 aircraft.
• During his service, Abhilash represented the Navy and the nation in several international forums and expeditionary programs. He was chosen to lead India’s first solo, nonstop circumnavigation under sail, and later mentored multiple naval sailing initiatives that elevated India’s reputation in ocean racing and exploration.

• In 2022, Abhilash Tomy returned to the Golden Globe Race, one of the toughest endurance challenges on Earth, a solo and nonstop circumnavigation of the globe without modern navigation or satellite assistance.
• It was his second attempt. During the 2018 edition, a violent storm in the Southern Ocean dismasted his boat and fractured his spine, leaving him immobile and requiring surgical implants. What could have ended his sailing career became a new beginning. Determined to finish what he had started, Abhilash committed to a full recovery with a single goal: to return to the race that had almost claimed his life.
• Four years later, he crossed the same oceans again and made history as the first Asian to secure a podium finish in the Golden Globe Race. Navigating only with a sextant, paper charts, and intuition, he completed one of the most demanding voyages ever attempted.
• The campaign was not only a personal triumph but also a study in resilience, leadership, and decision making under pressure. It generated significant earned media value and global visibility for sponsors who shared in the mission and its message of perseverance.
