I was born in New York City, grew up and worked in Switzerland, studied in London and I am from Tanzania, the most beautiful country in Africa and the world. For over a decade, I have been travelling, working and fully immersed in the business culture in East Africa and I have to say that although the countries are different, the one thing they all have in common is that the people are kind, authentic and have big hearts. I have heard and read alot that people in Africa are not so good at business and I have to say I have seen bad business practices and bad businessmen/women here. This is probably why so many people say investing in Africa is risky. However, I know that this is not the only side of the story because I have also seen and worked with great investors and business owners on the continent who are hard working and with the right tools for success, they make returns for themselves and investors more than anywhere in the world. I have had first row experience to this in the last 10 years as a lawyer, entrepreneur and as an investor. I decided to be an investment adviser because so many people were telling me how they want to invest in Africa, but because of the complex laws and regulations and not knowing who the right people to do business with, people were either losing capital or just not deploying it at all. As an investor myself and an African, I could not just sit back and do nothing. So I started a company called Shikana Group. Shikana is a Kiswahili name which means "to be in co-operation with", "to be together in all aspects" and "to be at grips with somebody".
