Kunal Datt — Co-Founder
Hi! I'm Kunal, a development professional who's spent over two decades figuring out why some education programs work and others don't. Everything I know today comes from managing $400M+ worth of education and skills projects across India, from village schools in Bihar to policy corridors in Delhi. During my 9+ years at the World Bank, I learned that the gap between brilliant policies and real impact often lies in how we evaluate and implement programs. I managed projects like STRIVE ($125M) and VTIP ($280M), working with 650+ organizations and seeing firsthand what makes development programs actually work. The most rewarding part? Watching ITI instructors in small towns embrace new teaching methods, or sitting in NEP consultation meetings where rural teachers shared the same table as policy experts from Delhi. These experiences set the foundation for what I do today. In November 2024, I took over Unnati C4E, where we design, implement, and evolve evaluation frameworks and help organizations/governments translate insights into actionable strategies. Over time, I realized that high-quality field research and data collection are the basis for high-quality decisions, but there was a gap in the market for such services at a reasonable cost. That realization led me to start this venture… the rest of the verticals were actually afterthoughts. While education remains close to my heart and is an area where we bring deep expertise, we work across the social sector from the start. We’re already building and applying capabilities in gender, environment, and social development, and over time, we’ll expand into adjacent domains, such as agriculture. We're currently working with multiple organizations to design evaluation frameworks, conduct high-quality field research, and bridge the gap between what the data shows and what actually happens on the ground. Along the way, I've also contributed to India's National Education Policy, conducted evaluations that informed $92M+ in funding decisions, and published research on topics ranging from agricultural reforms to business environment improvements. When I'm not deep in evaluation frameworks, I love exploring how behavioral science can improve development programs, and I'm always curious about what works (and what doesn't) in different contexts. I'm based in Delhi NCR with my family, and hold an MBA from the University of London and a specialization from IIM-Kozhikode. So, if you're interested in development evaluation, education policy, or turning insights into action, let's connect.
