  • I was responsible for identifying, specifying, and helping execute on the most impactful changes we can make on key areas of the web platform in support of consumer, enterprise, and developer needs. My role enabled me to collaborate with internal developers, PMs, and designers; partners in the Chromium open source project; and stakeholders in the W3C/WHATWG web standards bodies.
  • Most recently I:
  • Drove the Web Platform team's strategy for user trust and privacy on the web. This includes making new investments into consumer-facing features like Tracking Prevention, as well as collaborating with partners across and outside the company to design new privacy-preserving web standards for key use cases, such as federated authentication.
  • Chaired a workstream to strengthen how we communicate our trust and privacy investments with the general public.
  • Advanced a vision for customizable HTML controls in W3C/WHATWG standards bodies. The lack of control customizability is a decades-old developer pain point that results in accessibility, usability, and performance issues for users, as well as wasted resources across development organizations. Most recently I have co-designed and championed proposals that will reduce the complexity of creating top-layer popover UI.
  • (Microsoft retitled roles with this career path from "Program Manager" to "Product Manager")

  • The Microsoft Edge Web Platform team builds the browser’s rendering engine, or the set of web APIs developers use to create compelling and fully-featured websites. I focused on accessibility and privacy as a PM II. I identified, designed, and helped execute on the most impactful features and fixes we can make for web developers, browser users, and enterprises in these spaces.
  • Some highlight projects:
  • Brought support for UI Automation, the modern Windows accessibility API, to the Chromium web platform. This was a monumental effort involving full engineering teams across both Microsoft and Google.
  • Brought Windows High Contrast support to Chromium, finally standardizing CSS APIs for forced color modes.
  • Identified and addressed a key user pain point around disruptive notification requests with "quiet notifications". This feature suppresses the full browser flyout permission prompt for website notification requests, unless the website has a high rate of acceptance for these permissions.
  • Implemented an internal privacy review process for web API proposals.
  • Created and chaired a workstream to strengthen browser privacy communications.
  • I also invest heavily in team culture: I have served as a mentor to interns; created a peer mentorship group for my team; and continually seek out ways to improve our processes.

  • As a PM I on the Microsoft Edge Web Platform team, I filled a unique role.
  • I was the first designer/front-end developer on the team, working on public web properties, internal tools, browser pages, code demos, and marketing materials using design, front-end development, content strategy, and other skills. You can think of my audience as being web developers outside and inside of Microsoft.
  • Over time, my role expanded to include developer education through speaking engagements, partner engagements, and a half-day CSS Grid workshop. I also got involved with web standards work as a member of the W3C CSS Working Group. It's a wide range of activities, but essentially I helped the platform team communicate our active investments and future direction with the web community.
