• Personally asked by Jeff Bezos to take a two-sentence idea and develop it into the Alexa service and Echo hardware line. Built and led the Alexa/Echo organization from the ground up, spanning business, product development, UX, software, speech science and NLU teams, that delivered and launched Alexa on Amazon Echo, the Alexa Skills Kit, Alexa Voice Service and created the speech recognition, natural language understanding and text-to-speech platform leveraged by other Amazon devices, applications and AWS services.
• Despite Amazon having no speech or NLU capabilities at the start of the project in August 2011, we were able to launch Echo via invite-only beta in November 2014, two years before Google Home launched and more than three years before Apple Pod launched. Alexa is now available on more than 100 million devices worldwide.

• Asked by Amazon founder & CEO Jeff Bezos to serve as his technical advisor, a 'chief of staff'-type role (known internally as 'the shadow'). A highly coveted, intense rotational role for rising executives, job duties entailed attending every meeting with Jeff, helping teams prep for those meetings, following up afterwards to ensure action items were executed, and connecting threads across the senior leadership team. One of only 12 Amazon leaders to serve in this role while Jeff was CEO (current Amazon CEO Andy Jassy was one of the first to serve as Jeff's technical advisor).
