About

I first saw my name and words (2 of my poems) in the published poetry anthology, 'Voices From The Woods' (Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development-approved for senior school). I finally felt like a fully-fledged writer. For over 5 years, I’ve taught students how to play with language, think critically, and write with purpose. In the classroom, I learned what gives words a pulse. Rhythm, emotion, and clarity can turn even a simple idea into something unforgettable. That same insight shapes my work with authors. I help writers map and/or strengthen their storytelling, refine their language, and convey the heart of their message. My editing spectrum involves: - Manuscript Assessment – detailed, constructive feedback on what’s working and what's not (sample available upon request) - Developmental Editing – building stronger plots, pacing, and flow - Line Editing – refining tone, rhythm, and voice for smoother reading - Copy Editing – cleaning up grammar, consistency, and clarity A few highlights from my journey with language and words: - Published my poems in anthologies like 'Voices From The Woods' and The Kistrech Poetry Magazine - Compiled my very first poetry anthology, 'Whispers of Life.' - Ghostwrote poems and articles on Upwork - Contributed my Young Adult short story 'Predatory Shepherds' to a (Kenyan) CBC curriculum anthology - Edited clients' children's books, fiction, and nonfiction works on Upwork - Supported writers in crafting query letters and story summaries that expose their stories' core - Taught English language and literature in the IGCSE curriculum At heart, I’m both a teacher and a writer, so expect a collaborative process if you choose to work with me. I'll help you see your story more clearly, strengthen your craft, and gain confidence in your voice. If you’re a writer who's stuck at the ideas stage or wants to refine your manuscript, get unstuck, or become a better storyteller, let’s connect. If you also have ideas that need actualisation or drafts that need polishing, feel free to email me: cliyeya@gmail.com P.S. - Free consultations and a small sample edit available.
